Hussalonia is one of the best kept secrets in the world of pop music. This is unfortunate but not unexplained.
Hussalonia is a one-person pop outfit. Rumors hold that the one person is 1) not named Hussalonia and 2) has ties to a variety of Buffalo, NY bands, including but not limited to the Disappointments and the Hickory Windbreakers. This all relates to the aforementioned "unfortunate part"--Hussalonia makes terrific music, immediately catchy, emotional and lyrical direct, yet filled with enough clever moves and heady "Where'd he come up with that?" decisions to reward multiple laps around the proverbial track.
But to date Hussalonia has never toured. Rarely (ever?) played live. All of Hussalonia's releases are self-released. Many of them digital-only and/or limited. (There's still a lot of Hussalonia availablel, however: check out CD Baby or Hussalonia's website.) This contributes to the "not unexplained part." At best, Hussalonia could be described as shy, reluctant to step into the spotlight. (Cynics might say "willfully obscure," but the cynics are off base and unlikely to dig Hussalonia. Hussalonia has way too much heart for the "glass is half empty" crowd.)
Here comes the point: Hussalonia is playing live next Thursday. Granted, it's an internet-only performance and I'm hesitant to participate in such a venture. (Live music while seated in my office? Now I'll never leave the place. Live music is killing live music!) But I've signed up without reservations because I know it's going to be a wonderful show and know you'll dig it. And I want Hussalonia to get the message that this playing live stuff is worth doing again, and again, and again... Also, selfishly, I hope that Hussalonia plays NYC one day. So yes, I endorse and expect to fully enjoy next Thursday's set. No doubt. I'm also hoping it's a stepping stone to the night when I step off a train somewhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn and walk to see Hussalonia in person.
Here's the info...
Hussalonia Performs Live on the Internet
In preparation for the above-mentioned performance, the Hussalonia founder will be performing live on Stageit.com, an online venue that allows artists to broadcast streaming shows to a select audience. The show is limited to 50 viewers with a pay-what-you-can admission price. (Pay as little as ten cents!) The founder will be broadcasting live from the Subterranean Hussalonia headquarters, performing his favorite Hussalonia songs accompanied only by an electric guitar. You may reserve your ticket now (remember, there are only 50 virtual seats), but it does require that you sign up for a free Stageit account. If you buy a ticket and there is a specific Hussalonia song you'd like to hear, send your requests by replying to this email by this Monday, February 4th and the founder will do his best to oblige. The show will happen this Thursday, February 7th at 8:30 PM EST and will be a 30-minute show. Be one of the Hussalonian elite and reserve your ticket here!
